Listening via Your Media Player
For those looking for the URL for the stream: http://sc11.spacialnet.com/listen.pls?sid=41
http://sc11.spacialnet.com/listen.m3u?sid=41 may work better for some players.
For Windows Media Player, go to the file menu, select "Open URL" and point the player at http://184.172.153.2:80/stream/41/
What follows is guidance for listeners who want to listen to the stream using a particular program on their computer rtaher than the in-browser method linked to above.
As is practically everything on the Internet, streaming audio technology is constantly evolving, and there are sometimes problems and changes with how to stream WNMC as your media player goes through version updates. So we'll be keeping this page updated with new tips and techniques as they emerge.
However, if you want to stream the station through a media player like Itunes or Windows Media Player, you are in the right place.
Use the following as the URL for the stream: http://sc11.spacialnet.com/listen.pls?sid=41 or http://sc11.spacialnet.com/listen.m3u?sid=41
With most media players (except Windows Media Player) this should work fine, but sometimes Internet browsers do not seem to recognize the .pls file type, or know what to do with it . . .
Case One: My browser says it "cannot open" listen.pls (the stream file).
This may happen with computers that have not been used very much for music and video playing. The easy solution to this is rather than trying to open the listen link through Explorer, copy it (right click the link: copy link location) and then paste it into a media player like Itunes or winamp or QuickTime. Then just use this program directly henceforth.
Case Two: The above didn't work for me!
If you have a media player (Real, winamp, media monkey, Itunes. . . most anything other than Windows Media Player) you can use this procedure to fix the problem . . .
- Open "My Documents"
- In the Tools menu, select Folder Options
- Click on the File Types tab.
- See if PLS is in the list.
- If so, select it and change the associated program to the media program in question (you might have to browse & find it in Program Files).
- If not, hit the NEW button, create a new extension PLS and save it. Then "Change" that entry and associate it with your media program (choose program from list and browse through program files). OK through the menus and restart your browser and it should launch the new app once you hit the link.
Case Three: Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player (WMP) often doesn't seem to recognize .pls files (Microsoft has a competing format) but it can be forced to recognize our .pls file. So . . . You can open WMP on your own, go to the file menu, select "Open URL" and paste in this link: http://184.172.153.2:80/stream/41/ (DO NOT open this link with a browser as it will beging saving the stream to your hard drive.)
If you want to use WMP and run it directly off of a browser link, you'll have to run a third-party program which I believe is fine (I've seen it recommended in several places and used it myself) BUT I don't have the knowledge or expertise to vouch for it.
That said:
- Download and install the program here: http://www.codeplex.com/openplsinwmp » and then aim PLS files at that program (OpenPLSinWMP--see below), which will then send the stream along to Windows Media Player.
- To assign PLS to that program Open up your My Documents folder . . .
- In the Tools menu, select Folder Options
- Click on the File Types tab.
- See if PLS is in the list.
- If so, select it and change the associated program to OpenPLSinWMP.
- If not hit the NEW button, and associate PLS with OpenPLSinWMP (You'll have to choose the program from a list)
- Say OK, yadda yadda and next time you click on the pls link it'll ask you how to open: aim it toward OpenPLSinWMP and the stream should open in Windows Media Player.
Case Four: Help!
If what's here so far doesn't seem to help, write to Eric. Hopefully we'll be able to figure out your problem quickly and add it to the list of solvable problems above.
