Tom Hagen Jazz Trio
Thursday, July 2nd 7:30 P.M.
Church in the hills in Bellaire
$10 adults $5 Students (231)533-6001
I've gotten lots of good reports about the concert series at Church in the Hills over the years. Coming in July: The Tom Hagen Trio. They've has been performing regularly in West Michigan for the past 5 years. Performing weekly at NOTOS Italian Restaurant on East 28th St. in Grand Rapids MI., the trio appeals to all ages. The Trio performs Jazz Standards, Pop Standards...current repertoire includes Norah Jones, Michael Buble and many others.
From my review of his last InsideOut appearance: I read another commentator who only just discovered Wainwright saying
he'd listened to "Gray in LA" 20 times in a row--and Wainwright's tunes
are the sort that repay that kind of attention. Often they're catchy
(as Gray in LA is) but they're also quite well-crafted and they reveal
a wry, satiric--I'd say dark--outlook that cuts through the
middle-class, middle-of-the-road complacency it is so hard to avoid in
our culture. In fact it may be hardest to avoid when you try hardest to
avoid it. (read on)
Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul
with the Glengarry Bhoys
Thursday, July 9th
Interlochen Center for the Arts
Eileen Ivers is probably most famous now as one of the featured musicians in Riverdance, but she was well know to fans of Celtic music before that as a memebr of Mick Maloney's stellar Green Fields of America lineup and as a member of cherish the ladies. She was also part of a circle of young, innovative Irish musicans that came out of the East Coast scene back in the 90s. Check out this fine band she played in with Seamus Egan one summer in the video below.
And the Glengarry Boys should be familiar to our listeners as well.
From their webiste: Their energy and good humor, as much a part of the show as their musicianship, crosses all cultures and ages. Many things have been written and reported about this world renown Canadian alt-celt group over that last decade, all depicting their musical and entertaining prowess with varied audiences the world over, but their ability to marshal large enthusiastic audiences show after show is legion and recognized.
