The Northwest MI Jazz Experience (NMJE) presents its first ‘house concert’ of 2010 on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 3:00 – 5:30 pm at the home of NMJE board member and WNMC's own Jeff Haas.  The concert will feature Bill Sears on saxophone, Ed Fedewa on bass, drummer Larry Ochiltree and Dave Hay at Haas’ grand piano. The event is open to the public.

“Bill Sears, Dave Hay, Ed Fedewa and Larry Ochiltree are some of the finest and most in-demand jazz musicians in the Midwest. Their collective resumes read like a who’s who of jazz”, explains Haas, who is hosting the event. The Jazz Experience is committed to providing high quality and intimate jazz events that are open and accessible to everyone in our community. Admission will be limited to about 60 or 70 people so get to my house on time.”  And don't let the cats out.

Some 2009 Station Favorites
Written by admin
John Trembly from In the Red (Fridays 11p-2a):
Black Hollies- Softly Towards The Light- Ernest Jenning
Nouvellas- S/T- Ernest Jenning

Nick Heary (Thursday PM Jazz):

The MacPodz Live at the Ark

Tom Allerton (Africa Beyond, Wed., 7-9pm):

Oumou Sangare-Seya
Francophonic Vols. 1&2 on Sterns' (Strong managerial second on Vol. 1, especially)
The Rail Band reissues on Sterns'
Balla Ets Ses Balladins on Sterns' (Strong managerial second)
Nigeria 1970 reissue on Strut (caveat however in that World Passport
podcasts cover this music in far more depth...)
... all in all a rather bland year with little other new music of note on
the
african & international scene from this listener's perspective.
I guess the past is a good place to be stuck in these days...

Mike Lovelady (Wednesday Rock, 9-11pm):

Unfortunately I'm not one for prosey art haus reviews - I am an engineer after all....I think album releases have been a bit samey this year and I don't remember anything blowing me away too much but here we go...

Acoustic Ladyland - Living With A Tiger
Possibly the best live band I've seen - so much energy, a complete wall of jazz-punk noise - this latest album just a beast.

Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussain - The Melody of Rhythm
Genius

Dub FX - Everythinks a Ripple
"Dub Fx is a Worldwide Street Performer who uses loop & effects pedals to create layers of sounds into music using only his voice. ..."

Gomez - A New Tide
Underrated ( especially in their homeland ) songsmiths still going strong

Other Lives - Other Lives
Splendid ( not too ) epic sprawling indie

Engineers - Three Fact Fader
Dream pop indie ( apparently )

Fink - Sort of Revolution
A man and his guitar ( and some other stuff )

Qemists - Join The Q
Another beast of a CD!

Sonic Middle Age - The Eternal
Just writing songs now - still brilliant

Les Claypool - Of Fungi and Foe
Always have a soft spot for Les

Tom Waits - Glitter and Doom
Consumate nutter

Nick McClure (Monday Late Nite, 11pm-2am):

Eric, Here is a list of the Top twenty 2009 releases based on what albums, or albums with the singles that I have been listening to the most.
